The Lagoon Nebula (M8) is one of the brightest nebulas in the sky. It can be glimpsed under dark skies as a small gray cloud near the central hub of the Milky Way. Deep CCD images like this reveal the turbulent and sculpted envions of gas clouds in this stellar nursery some 4,000 light years away. Eventually the gas will be used in the production of stars and blown away to reveal a singularly impressive star cluster.
