Galaxies are the denizens of the cosmic ocean. They seem to swim–some near and many far–each and every way. These four galaxies are truly neighbors at a distance of 80 million light years away from us. The two central spiral galaxies, one viewed edgewise and the other face-on, interact gravitationally and mutually distort their shapes. The round fuzzy galaxy near the top of the field is an elliptical galaxy. Most galaxies in the Universe take this form of spherical softness; if you have seen one you have seen them all.
